A mid-summer internship report

September 14th, 2009

If I could sum the entire couple of months in one word it would be ‘boredom’. Its a little over a month left to go before I complete this period of so called industrial training and I do not feel that I’ve learned enough to even fill 5 minutes of a presentation. Heck, things has been so slow I could practically complete an entire week’’s work in a day. I had to crap alot in my log book. So much so everyday has only a line of words to describe my activities for the day. A very short one in fact. Sometimes I do not even have anything to do for the entire day. Tempting as it is to honestly put “Today I went online and Facebook’ed.” into it I figure the university won’t be so much so appreciating of such an over honest student in their midst… or would they? Hmm…

But looking at the blogs and facebook pictures of my friends during this free times like Winston and Khai Ling makes me wonder what would happen if I was having my industrial training a.ka. internship overseas, at a university or even at a multinational company. Before I started my industrial training I used to wonder if I would have some relaxation time at work to go online to check my mail and stuff. I think I wished a little too hard.

Listening to X-Japan on my PSP while ranting about this right now isn’t my version of a good job I tell ya. No matter what, I still wish to learn of new things. On how the SCADA system is implemented, the various ways that it could be done and the alternatives that could be made as a few example of what I believe should be taught. The only skill I ever dare to admit that I’ve picked up on the job is Microsoft’s Paint. I’m so bloody good in it I’m sad. This is so NOT what I signed up for.

Thinking about it, I should have just went down to New Zealand to work with my uncle. At least I might get to go for tactical weapons combat and self defense training from special forces personnel. Sigh. I’ve been learning and doing more outside the work place than in it. My weekends are usually full and my week nights is most commonly filled with meetings and appointments. The occasional yumcha session included.

The lecturer will be coming for a visit and I’m suppose to show them my log book and do a short presentation on my progress. But…what progress? I do hope they do not mean Facebook progress. Posted too late. Lecturer already came to visit. I was somewhat unprepared but it went smoothly. More or less.

I wanna learn more and go to the site for at least once so I could write a tad more in my report not to mention take more pics.

23 more days to go.

Sigh…I’m feeling depressed all over again.

One of my friend got to do data entry…check stock and whatever. My colleagues during ITP got to do the accounting sector of the company. Learn to use the accounting software…and go find clients for some smidec grant thing…another one of my friend (diploma tho) installed WinXP in MMU Melaka’s Sigma lab computers.

That’s how we’re treated la. Peons. Meh.

Well I guess not all of us are lucky enough to do what the other guy is doing. Drone work is drone work although I was looking for some self-improvement along the lines. Oh well, I guess next up is my FYP. TT__TT
